Buying your first guitar means that you want to
make sure that you find exactly what you~re looking
for so that you don~t end up buying an instrument
that isn~t right for you. You~ll want to have a
different type of guitar depending on the type of
music that you~re going to be playing, such as rock
or classical.
Many people decide to buy a used guitar for their
first instrument. This can save you some money but
it can have its drawbacks as well. You~ll have to
check out used guitars very carefully to see if they
are playable before you make your purchase. If you
can afford to buy your first guitar brand new you~ll
be able to get exactly what you~re looking for in
your first instrument.
Make sure that you don~t use the brand name to
judge a guitar. Many brands are over rated only
because someone famous endorsed the instrument.
This will jack up the price of the guitar when in
reality it~s no different than other brand names.
Always buy your guitar from stores that have a
good reputation for knowing what they are selling.
Whether you~re buying used or new you~ll want to
research each store so that you know ahead of time
what they offer and how reliable they are. The
more you know about what guitar you~re buying,
and where you~re buying it from, the happier you~ll
be with your purchase.
It~s important that you evaluate more than one or
two guitars before you narrow down your choice.
You want to be absolutely certain that you get the
sound that you~re looking for in your first
instrument. Take along an experienced guitar
player who can play a tune for you so that you can
hear the sound without having to play it yourself.
Someone who has already made their own guitar
purchase may be better able to help you ask the
right questions.
Used guitars are often as good as new guitars so
don~t let their condition throw you off. Most guitars
are playable for many years and the outer condition
of the instrument will have little to do with its
sound. Dents and scratches can be easily repaired,
while broken strings can be restrung and tuned to
give a great sound. Buying used means that you
can save yourself a lot of money that you can invest
in lessons or sheet music.
If you~re going to be buying an electric guitar make
sure that you get the store to plug it into an amp so
that you can hear the sound clearly. Since electric
guitars sound much different than the acoustic
guitar you~ll want to bring along someone
knowledgeable to offer you advise and tips on what
to look for when it comes to sound and styling.
Buying any type of guitar means knowing ahead of
time what you want, trying out several different
guitars, and finding the right price to fit your
budget.
