What Can A DVD Not Do?

With technology progressing at its current rate the world
of home entertainment is a totally different animal to ten
years ago. It's now possible to produce professional
looking recordings from home with the right equipment and a
little knowledge. There are just so many things that you
can try. But first,
1~Transfer VHS tapes to DVD. Very soon it will be
impossible to buy VHS recorders and people will be pushed
into either losing their footage or transferring it.
Although it may sound difficult to transfer the data, in
reality, it's really quite simple but you will need a
writer and you simply connect it to your VCR or camcorder
and everything will be transferred in seconds.
a.~You can buy rewritable DVDs (DVD RW) that will allow
you to use the disc over and over again.
b.~Alternatively you can use 'once only' DVDs that can
never be recorded over.
c.~It is possible to buy a double layer DVD that holds
additional storage.
d.~A DVD should last between thirty and one hundred years
(much longer than a video tape).
2~You can edit out all the bits that really weren't quite
the ticket. For instance, when Auntie Mabel left the camera
on and it videoed the ceiling for five minutes or if you'd
like to cut someone out of the shot. Anything is now
possible and is a very simple operation.
3~You can add background music throughout or you can fade
different pieces in and out. You can write and record a
voice over for the whole DVD (tip, it's easier to write the
script to the pictures rather than to write a script and
then try to find the right length of pictures to go
alongside).
4~You can go as far as producing opening and closing
credits so that it looks like a professional film and if
you feel that some witty comments written along the bottom
of the screen than, again, this is not only possible but
also very simple to achieve.
5~If you've just returned from holiday you can combine
your camcorder footage along with your photos to create a
slideshow. If you have a birthday coming up or you'd like
to give a special present to a loved one, what better than
putting your own pictures together on a DVD and giving it
as a unique and very special present.
6~You can design your own labels and even buy printers for
a modest sum that can make the DVD look totally unique and
professional. When they are then presented in a
professional box, again, with a card for pictures or
credits, you will have a package that has the potential for
being professional enough to market.
In short, someone working on their lap top computer in
front of the television can produce a DVD that looks as
professional as one bought from retailer and produced on a
commercial basis. This really hasn't pleased the video
industry as there are many professional people making their
livings at home rather than with the big companies that
used to employ so many.
